An arrest warrant is a legal term used for a judicial order that directs law enforcement agencies in Island County, WA, to arrest an individual and bring him before the judiciary to file a criminal matter against him/her.

Unlike other arrest orders, a warrant issued in a criminal case is exclusively issued when the police request the local criminal court for such an order. However, before the document is signed, the court carefully considers the writ filed by the Sheriff’s Department to ensure enough evidence to implicate the individual in question.

An arrest order that has been duly signed by the sitting magistrate or any other officer who is authorized to exercise the magistrate’s powers is known as an active arrest warrant.

Although, in most cases, a person is quickly taken into custody once a warrant is issued against him/her, in rare scenarios, the arrest order may be put on the back-burner. In this case, it continues to stay in effect but is then termed an outstanding arrest warrant.
